A large-size statue of the Greek Venus which was discovered in 1651 in the archaeological diggings of the Roman Theatre at Arles, as a reproduction made by the Louvre Museum's workshops, the 'Ateliers du Louvre'. This steel-reinforced plaster statue has an encaustic wax patination made to closely resemble pure white, antique marble. The rear of this statue is stamped with hallmark of the Ateliers du Louvre.
