A Classical Statue of Venus

A large-size statue of the Greek Venus which was discovered in 1651 in the archaeological diggings of the Roman Theatre at Arles, as a reproduction made by the Louvre Museum's workshops, the 'Ateliers du Louvre'. This steel-reinforced plaster statue has an encaustic wax patination made to closely resemble pure white, antique marble. The rear of this statue is stamped with hallmark of the Ateliers du Louvre. Area of Paris, circa 1950.

Condition report: In excellent and original, unrestored condition.
Dimensions: Height 207 cm plus plinth. Please note: the statue stands on an ebonised timber plinth 40 cm tall. This plinth is fitted with hidden caster wheels, for ease of movement.
