A large and exceptional quality French Regence style wrought iron and gilt tole work ‘Cage’ chandelier of six lights, each of the arms shaped in harmonious ‘S’ scrolls, ending in drip-trays and candles, the structure retaining the original pressed and gilt tole (pressed metal) foliate decorations. Of very good proportions and workmanship, and decorated with cut 'teardrop' crystals. Please note the excellent patination of the wrought iron. Retaining its original ceiling-cup and its original faceted crystal plinth ball. Attibuted to Gilbert Poillerat (1902-1988), a renown French designer specialising in wrought iron work. Later in life, Poillecart became a teacher at the prestigious "École Nationale des Arts Decoratifs". Area of Paris, circa 1940.
