A Normandy Armoire de Mariage

A 19th century French Louis XV style haut-relief carved pine 'Armoire de Mariage', fitted with a shaped ‘Chapeau de Gendarme’ pediment. Traditionally given in Normandy to a newly-wed couple as a wedding present, this Marriage Armoire is decorated with carved bouquets and with garlands of Spring flowers, allegories for fertility. Area of Rouen, Normandy, circa 1850.
