A pair of large, well-proportioned 19th century French Louis XVI style, finely carved walnut wingback Bergere armchairs, upholstered with a separate seat cushion, making it very comfortable to sit in. Decorated with hand-carved haut relief 'continuous-ribbon and acanthus leaf mouldings, paterae, and standing on elegantly tapering and fluted feet. The shaped top rail is decorated with whimsical, haut-relief carved flowers. Please note the high-quality, luminous quality of the walnut timbers. Paris, circa 1880.
