A large Majolica Fruit Bowl

A large Italian majolica table decoration, glazed in natural colours, in the shape of a woven fruit-picking basket with a pile of fruit, comprising cherries, a banana, a pear, a pair of lemons and a pomegranate, interspersed with leaves. Please note: this type of pottery work is considered a virtuoso level of work, due to the difficulty of double-firing a clay object with such intricate, woven patterns, once for the red clay sculpted item, and at least once for the glazes. Italy, circa 1960.
