A mid 18th century French white glazed Saint Clement majolica inkwell, retaining the original, removable ink and powder wells. The Rocaille design body is decorated with hand painted trellises of foliate borders, shell motifs and is interspersed with bouquets of flowers. The pen-holder is decorated with a "Scene Galante" in which a gentleman is offering a basket of grapes to his lover. Area of North Eastern France, circa 1760.
