A large Italian woven majolica basket holding fruit, comprising cherries, a banana, a pear, a pair of lemons and a pomegranate, interspersed with green leaves. Please note: this type of pottery work is considered a virtuoso level of work, due to the difficulty of double-firing an object with such intricate woven patterns, once for the red clay sculpted item, and at least once for the glazes. Italy, circa 1960.
