A large set of three 18th century French Louis XVI period oil on canvas 'Boiserie' panels forming a triptych, each panel decorated with Neoclassical motifs, the central one depicting Venus and Psyche standing on a pedestal, the other two depicting couples with backs against each other, with intertwined arms. Each of these central motifs, (inspired by frescoes in what was then, the recently discovered Pompeii), is surrounded by wonderful hand-painted trellises of flowers, swags of ribbons and pearls, Medici urns and foliate scrollwork on an ivory coloured background. Area of Paris, circa 1780.
Please note: this is one of a pair of triptych panels. To see the second panel, please look up stock id 15762.
