A set of French Louis XVI period Panels

A large set of three 18th century French Louis XVI period oil on canvas 'Boiserie' panels forming a triptych, each panel decorated with Neoclassical motifs, the central one depicting Venus and Psyche standing on a pedestal, the other two depicting couples with backs against each other, with intertwined arms. Each of these central motifs, (inspired by frescoes in what was then, the recently discovered Pompeii), is surrounded by wonderful hand-painted trellises of flowers, swags of ribbons and pearls, Medici urns and foliate scrollwork on an ivory coloured background. Area of Paris, circa 1780.

Condition report: In excellent and original, unrestored condition. The original 18th century canvases have been re-lined and are mounted on canvas stretchers. Some of the photos show the triptych as it was when found.
Dimensions: Larger central panel 207x 158 cm, two lateral panels each 207 x 110.5 cm.
