A French Louis XVI style, mahogany and gilt brass-mounted 'Bureau Plat' desk of fine Neoclassical proportions, fitted with two pull-out extension leaves opening at each end. The desktop and the two pull-out extensions are fitted with the original, embossed and gilt-edged leather. The desk's restrained decorations include French Neoclassical oval key escutcheons, gilt brass mouldings framing the desktop and the drawers, and gilt brass tips on the legs. The desk has good legroom and is finished on both sides, so that it can de displayed in the centre of a room. Retaining all locks and keys. Please note how the gilt brass mouldings offset the warm tonalities of the mahogany timbers. Area of Paris, circa 1930.
