An extending French Pedestal Dining Table

  • Stock ID: 11276
  • Reference No: JC
A fine and elegant, mid 19th century French Napoleon III period, oval top, walnut and ebonised walnut extending dining table standing on a Classical plinth of four scroll-shaped feet, carved with paterae and foliate motifs. The timbers retaining their original, nicely-faded walnut patina. Retaining the original caster wheels. Area of Paris, circa 1870. This table has an extension mechanism allowing for several extension leaves to be fitted. Drop-down turned legs ensure the stability of the table, when extended. The table retains the original leaves, which typically were left 'in the raw', assuming that if extended for a large dinner setting, the table would be covered by a table cloth. Our workshop can re-finish the extension leaves and bring them in closer to the colour and finish of the table ends.
Condition report: Complete, in good and unrestored condition. The extending mechanism is in very good condition.
Dimensions: When closed 144 x 130 cm. When open to full length 144 x 370 cm.
