A pair of early 19th century French Empire period Paris porcelain vases of Neoclassical shape and proportions, the fronts and the rears decorated with finely painted landscapes and with swan-shaped handles. Please note: the swan motif is a symbol of Josephine Bonaparte. It refers to the black swans that the navigator Nicolas Baudin (1754-1803) brought back to France from South Australia, and which Josephine Bonaparte took for her aviary at the 'Château de Malmaison'. Area of Paris, circa 1810.
