An early 19th century French Louis XV style haut relief carved and patinated, solid pine "Armoire de Mariage" (a marriage cupboard), traditionally given in Normandy to a newly-wed couple as a wedding present. Decorated with carved bouquets and with garlands of Spring flowers (allegories for Fertility), with musical instruments on the door panels (an allegory for Harmony), with a an outsized basket overflowing with a large bouquet of flowers (an allegory for Abundance). Please note the excellent 'Chapeau de Gendarme' pediment, the large size of which denotes the importance of this piece. Internally fitted with shelves. Area of Rouen, Normandy, circa 1840.
