Founded by Miguel Meirelles, Meirelles Antiques has built a reputation for sourcing distinctive antiques and decorative pieces from across Europe and beyond. With a particular focus on French antiques, Miguel personally travels overseas to hand-select pieces from Paris and Provincial France, ensuring each item reflects the quality, character and craftsmanship that define the collection.
His philosophy remains simple: select every piece as though it were destined for his own home. This personal approach has helped shape a collection renowned for its authenticity, individuality and enduring appeal.
French Antiques Melbourne
Miguel Meirelles trained as a conservator of antique furniture at the “Istituto per l’Arte e il Restauro” in Florence (1978-1980), and from 1990 ran his Melbourne antiques retail shop at the same premises as his conservation workshop. As of January 2027, the shop has moved to 40 High Street, in the gorgeous town of Trentham, Victoria. We are also operating from our new warehouse at 26 Mediterranean Court, Keysborough. Please feel welcome to make a time to visit our warehouse.
Miguel regularly travels to France to find pieces with personality for his shop, his criteria being whether he “would happily put each piece in his own house”, hand-picking French antiques as well as decorative and quirky items. Miguel is happy to arrange for short term rentals of his furniture and decorative items to television, film, theatre and advertising studios.
This ground-floor room follows from the first, as you enter from the street. It accesses the office and has large double-doors opening onto our courtyard. The courtyard houses most of our architectural items, and some of the garden and statuary pieces too.
