A 19th century French Napoleon III period cast iron 'fire-back' reflector plate destined for the back wall of a fireplace, to absorb and to reflect the heat from the flames back into the room. This plaque is decorated with a haut-relief figure of a hunter standing, pheasants dangling from his shotgun, his dog running ahead. Area of Isle de France (Greater Paris), circa 1860.
