A pair of French Louis XV style 'Bureau Plat' desks, the faded rosewood timbers decorated with gilt brass escutcheons and mounts, the writing tops fitted with pull-out extensions. All tops retain their original, gilt-edge brass mouldings and their original, embossed and gilt-edged leather inserts. Of good length and depth and of quality of workmanship, these desks are typical of the quality work of workshops from the 'Faubourg Saint-Antoine' in Paris. Please note the understated elegance and the jewellery-like quality of the gilt brass mounts. Area of Paris, circa 1900.
