A Fine Louis XV Desk

An elegant French Louis XV style 'Bureau Plat' desk, the cross-banded rosewood timbers with an excellent colour, decorated with fine Parisian-quality fire-gilt bronze handles, escutcheons and mounts. The shaped top is fitted with gilt-edge brass mouldings and with its original embossed and gilt-edged leather. The desk is double-sided, so that the rear can face a room. Please note the jewellery-like quality of handles and mounts and the harmonious proportions of this piece, which is typical of the high quality work of fine cabinetmaking workshops in the Parisian 'Faubourg Saint Antoine' district.
