A 19th century French Louis XVI style, solid mahogany commode chest of two drawers, of excellent Neoclassical proportions. Fitted with finely cast, chased and gilt brass 'foliate scroll' handles and with 'knotted bow and wreath' escutcheons, the drawers are framed by fine 'string-of-pearls' gilt brass mouldings. Retaining the original, shaped and moulded Carrara marble top. Please note the jewellery-like quality of the gilt brass handles and escutcheons. This commode has a shallow depth, and is suitable to being used as an entrance hall console table. Paris, circa 1880.
