An 18th century French Louis XVI period mahogany and gilt brass-mounted commode of five drawers, of excellent Neoclassical proportions, retaining its original, shaped and moulded Carrara marble top. The Honduras mahogany has over time acquired a nicely faded, warm-brown patination, which is beautifully offset by the gilt brass mounts, the drawer mouldings and the original handles and escutcheons. Please note the strong, masculine character and the elegance of this commode. Area of Paris, circa 1780.
