A 19th century French Henri II Renaissance style solid oak coffer, decorated with haut-relief hand carved ogee, gadrooned and loop mouldings, standing on turned pad feet. This coffer is typical of the Renaissance-revival French furniture manufactured in the 1860s, a copy of French King Henri II furniture made in the 16th century, in the Florentine Renaissance 'Mannerist' style. King Henri II had married Catherine de Medici, who brought to the court at Fontainebleau the fashion of the Florentine Renaissance. Please note the high quality of the carvings. Area of Paris, Italy, circa 1870.
