A 19th century French Napoleon III period, Louis XV style, solid oak 'Buffet Vitré', a glazed bookcase-buffet, originally used in a home for food storage and as a display piece for fine China and glassware. The oak timbers are nicely-burnished and retain their original luminous patina. Internally fitted with the original shelving. Please note the elegant and large 'Chapeau de Gendarme' pediment, and the façade, which is decorated with carved arrows, and with typical 'Cauchois' haut relief scrollwork and circular mouldings. This piece, born as a buffet, would make an excellent bookcase. Area of Pays de Caux (Upper Normandy), circa 1860.
