An 18th century French faience soup tureen decorated with colourful hand painted borders and friezes and depicting stylised foliate and floral patterns, fitted with two carrying handles, the original lid with a fine cone finial. Please note: this tureen is a collectible as an example of repairs made from hand-forged metal staples to hold broken ceramic pieces together, done in times well before the invention of glue. Area of Quimper, Brittany, circa 1780.
