A French Gien lidded jar, the body decorated with hand painted peony flowers and foliate trellises. The 'Pivoines' patterns were first created in 1875 and have since become an iconic emblem of Gien’s hand-painted tradition. The underside is stamped with the Gien potteries' Castle hallmark. Area of Gien, circa 1960.

Condition report: In good and unrestored condition. Please note: a previous owner has carved a spoon slot in the lid.
