A set of French Louis XVI period Panels

A set of three, large 18th century French Louis XVI period oil on canvas Neoclassical 'Boiserie' panels, each panel decorated with central medallions, the large one depicting 'Venus and Psyche', the other two depicting cherubs at play. Each of these central motifs, (inspired by frescoes in what was then, the recently discovered Pompeii), is surrounded by wonderful hand-painted trellises of flowers, swags of ribbons, Medici urns, birds and foliate scrollwork on an ivory coloured background. Area of Paris, circa 1780.

Condition report: In excellent and original, unrestored condition. The original 18th century canvases have been re-lined and are mounted on stretchers - hence the canvases showing the edges with signs of nails and studs. .
