A large 19th century lithograph, taken from an 1858 photograph by Charles Thurston Thompson (British, 1816–1868) of preparatory cartoons by Raphael, for tapestries that were made for Pope Leo X in 1514 to be hung in the Sistine Chapel. These tapestries, hung on special occasions, depict stories from the Gospels and the Life of the Apostles. In this scene known as "The Healing of the Lame Man", the twisted columns are said to represent those of the temple of Solomon. Set into the original gilt frame, a 19th century framer's label at the rear. Area of London, circa 1870.
