A French Napoleon III period, Louis XVI style rosewood parquetry inlaid commode chest of drawers retaining the original, shaped and moulded-edge 'Breche' marble top and fitted with its original gilt brass 'ring' handles, key escutcheons and 'sabot' feet. The stepped front is decorated with inlaid timbers in the shape of an urn overflowing with flowers. This commode was made with fine workmanship typical of cabinetmaking workshops of the Parisian 'Faubourg Saint Antoine'. The colour of the inlaid timbers have acquired a soft tonality over time. Area of Paris, circa 1870.
