An Auguste Moreau Statuette

A fine, French cast and bronze-patinated spelter statuette depicting two young women holding up the symbols of France and England, the first, a 'Tricolore' flag on a standard and the other, a shield with the arms of Britain. Designed by Moreau as an allegory for the "Entente Cordiale", the peace agreement which made between France and England in 1904. Standing on its original faux-marble timber plinth. The brass plaque on the plinth is inscribed with "L'Entente Cordiale" ('Cordial Agreement'), "par Aug. Moreau", (Auguste Moreau, France 1834-1917) . Area of Paris, circa 1905.

Condition report: In good and original, unrestored condition, showing surface wear in keeping with its age.
