An 18th Century French Pastoral Scene

  • Stock ID: 8901
A large, mid 18th century French Rococo oil on canvas painting from the school of François Boucher's. Inspired by Boucher's painting "Are They Thinking about the Grape?" ("Pensent-ils au Raisin?") , which painted in 1747, and which now hangs in the Stockholm Museum. This painting depicts two aristocrats dressed as 'paesans', in a "Scene Gallante"- with a shepherd offering grapes to a shepherdess. Typical of the genre, this painting is dense with romantic fantasies and allegories. Fitted into its original, excellent-quality carved and gilt frame. Area of Isle de France (Greater Paris), circa 1760.
Condition report: In excellent, unrestored condition.
