A fine French Louis XVI Bed

An elegant 19th century carved walnut French Louis XVI style bed, the shaped header and footer both decorated with haut-relief floral and foliate motifs, the uprights in the shape of quivers (allegories for 'the arrows of passion'), the footer panel decorated with an allegorical trophy representing knowledge (the flaming torch), and success (laurel leaves). Area of Paris, circa 1880. This bed is suitable for use with a double-bed sized mattress (in Australia the standard is 137 x 188 cm).
