A 19th century French Louis XVI style Armoire decorated with haut-relief carved oval medallions and with carved Neoclassical elements including paterae, gadrooned mouldings, acanthus leaf garlands, and festooned with trellises of flowers and with knotted ribbons. The doors retain their original, shaped and bevelled mirrors. The elegantly curved 'Chapeau de Gendarme' pediment is fitted with finials and is decorated with a central crest displaying a quiver of arrows crossed with a flaming torch. These are Louis XVI allegories for a 'piercing intelligence' and for a 'burning passion'): the well-wishes for a successful home. The solid oak interiors retain the original, adjustable-height oak shelves, one of which is fitted with a suspended hanging-bar and another shelf is fitted with two lockable drawers. Area of Paris, circa 1880.
