An 18th century French solid oak two-door 'Armoire de Mariage', haut-relief and bas-relief carved, internally fitted with shelves. Traditionally given as a gift to a newly-wed couple, this 'marriage' Armoire is decorated with allegorical motifs, including trellises of Spring flowers (for Youthfulness, fertility). Retaining a very nicely faded and well-burnished original patination. The rear and interiors show the adze and bow-saw toolmarks of its early construction techniques. France, circa 1770.
