A pair of French Library Armchairs

A very fine pair of French Louis XVI style carved walnut 'Bergeres a Oreilles' wing-back Library Armchairs, the shaped crests of the back-rests decorated with knotted bows. The chairs frames are carved with 'continuous ribbon' mouldings, acanthus leaves, paterae and fluting. Note the graceful lines, the broad and comfortable proportions, and the high quality of the hand-carved decorations. Area of Paris, circa 1870.

Condition report: In excellent and unrestored condition. The two armchairs are identical, but upholstered in slightly different old fabrics.

Dimensions: Width 68 cm, height 116 cm to top of back-rest.
