A pair of French Louis XVI Armchairs

A pair of 19th century French Napoleon III period, Louis XVI style, carved and painted 'Fauteuils Cabriolet' armchairs of Classical proportions, the seats, the backs and armrests retaining the original tapestries, which were made specifically for these armchairs. Elegantly carved and comfortable to sit on, both armchairs retaining the original horse hair upholstery. Each of the undersides of the seats is stamped with the maker's mark, "Maison Krieger".

Maison Krieger was a prominent Parisian furniture manufacturer in 19th Century. Founded in 1826 by Antoine Krieger, it remained as a family business until the early 20th Century. Maison Krieger won awards at the 1849 "Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie" in Paris and at the "Exposition Universelle" of 1851 in London, for the fine quality of its craftsmanship. Condition report: In good, as-found and unrestored condition. The tapestries are in good condition and may need steam cleaning. The original finish is slightly worn and may require touch-ups.
