A large French Louis XV Dinner Setting
A 19th century 41 piece French faience dinner setting, comprising: 8 soup plates, 8 entree plates, 8 main course plates, a soup tureen with lid, a sauce boat, two circular platters, a rectangular platter, a cake platter, and two small oval platters. Each item is decorated with sepia Rococo style foliate and floral motifs on an ivory background, interspersed with storks, swallows, as well as fountains and musical instruments. The swallows and storks are allegories for Spring and for offspring, the fountain and the crossed musical instruments as allegories for life-giving and for harmony. Area of Luneville, North East France, circa 1880.
Condition report: In good and original condition. These plates and platters show some signs of wear. No breakages, but some small chipping on some edges of plates, etc.
Dimensions: Soup plates diameter 25.5 cm, main plates 25 cm, entree plates 24 cm. Rectangular platter 33 x 25 cm, round platter diameter 29 and 34 cm, sauce boat length 27 cm.
