A French ‘Gargoyle’ Extending Dining Table
Reference No: 419
A characterful, 19th century French Louis XIV style carved solid oak extending dining, the oak parquetry top above legs carved in the shape of sitting Gargoyles, joined by a sturdy 'H' stretcher. Each of the table rails is decorated with haut-relief mouldings and geometric motifs. This table will comfortably seat eight people when closed, and on opening both extensions will seat twelve. France, circa 1880.
Apologies for the poor quality photo, taken with the impossibility of clearing the table first. Better photos of this table will be taken on its arrival in Melbourne.
Condition report: Complete and in excellent, unrestored condition. The timbers presently very dry.
Dimensions: 180 x 108 cm, extending to 300 cm. Height 76 cm.
