A ‘Marie Antoinette’ Mirror
An outstanding 19th century French, Napoleon III period, Louis XVI style carved and Trianon grey painted mirror, the frame decorated with stepped corners, string-of-pearl mouldings and Neoclassical elements such as paterae and carved swags of fabric. The impressive pediment with an out-sized knotted bow and acanthus leaf garlands surrounding a Classic Greek portrait hand-painted in an oval medallion. Each of the uprights with a medallion, one depicting Marie Antoinette reading, the other with a medallion depicting her children, Louis XVII and Marie Therese. The plinth medallion depicts a Classic Greek vase. Retaining the original mirror. Area of Paris, circa 1860.
