A set of three 19th century French glazed Gien terre de feu ceramic 'novelty' plates, known as "assiettes parlantes" (talking plates) from the "Les Mathurins" series, with comical scenes taken from everyday French sailors'lives. Area of Gien, Central France, circa 1880.

Condition report: In good and original condition, showing slight wear in keeping with its age. Please note: one of the plates has a paler tonality of blue.
