A Transitional French Louis XVI Mirror

A 19th century French Napoleon III period, transitional Louis XVI style carved and gilt mirror, the frame shaped, fretted and with haut relief carved 'C' and 'S' foliate scrollwork, still in the Louis XV style, with haut relief foliate scrolls and with climbing vines. The large pediment is decorated with a typical Louis XVI motif, a "Trophée du Carquois et Flambeau", the arrows in the quiver an allegory for Piercing Intelligence, the flaming torch an allegory for Passion. Retaining the original silvered mirror plates, including the mirrors behind the climbing vines. Area of the South of France, circa 1870.
