A French Louis XVI style 'demilune' commode of Neoclassical proportions, the façade decorated with walnut parquetry inlaid with Grecian style ebony patterns, and with boxwood 'Paterae' and 'Fluting' inlays. Fitted with two drawers, the curved flanks designed with open cupboards. Retaining the original, shaped and moulded 'Carrara' marble top, the original gilt brass mounts, ring handles and the 'knotted bow' escutcheons. This commode can be used in a bedroom, in a drawing room, or as an excellent entrance hall /console table. Please note the jewellery-like quality of the timber inlays and the fine gilt brass work, typical of the workmanship from a cabinet-making workshop of the Parisian 'Faubourg Saint Antoine'. Area of Paris, circa 1930.
