A large 18th century French farmhouse table, the well-burnished solid beechwood top made from four thick planks which are fitted with 'bread-ends', standing on four sturdy, square-section legs joined by stretchers. Please note the excellent width and the good height and leg-room of this table. This is a design typical of a provincial dining table of this period and from this particular area of Lower Normandy. Area of Calvados, France, circa 1740.
