A French Art Nouveau period cast and bronze-patinated spelter statuette by Moreau (Hippolyte François Moreau, 1832-1927), depicting a mother in a protective gesture towards her daughter. Designed by as an allegory for 'Loving Protectiveness', hence the French title for this piece, "Protection". Standing on its original turned and moulded Arabesque Siena marble plinth, the rear of this statuette is signed "H. Moreau". A brass plaque on the plinth is inscribed with "Protection". Area of Paris, circa 1900.
