A pair of Auguste Moreau Statuettes

A fine pair of cast and bronze-patinated spelter French statuettes depicting young women holding up musical instruments, the first, a mandolin, the other a harp, designed as allegories for music. Standing on their original faux-marble timber plinths, the brass plaques on the plinths are inscribed with 'Melodie Champetre' and with 'La Mandoline' and also with "par Aug. Moreau (Medaille d'Or)". The rear of the statuettes signed "Aug. Moreau". Attributed to Auguste Moreau, France 1834-1917. Area of Paris, circa 1905.
