An 18th Century Convent's Laundry Table

  • Stock ID: 13942

An 18th century French Convent's solid beechwood extending table of exceptional width and colour, the table's top and the underside having been beautifully bleached by its use in the laundry, where soap and bleach have done their work over many years, with the resulting pale and soft colour. Standing on chamfered square-section legs joined by an 'H' stretcher. The underside of this table shows its early construction techniques. Area of the Lower Normandy, circa 1780.

Condition report: In good and original, partly restored condition. Repairs have been carried out to the tips of the feet and the missing extensions leaves have been rebuilt out of similar beechwood. This table has been deliberately left without a finish. On request, this can be carried out to the purchaser's requests. We recommend leaving the table bleached out, but cleaned of old stains. Our workshop is able to match the new leaves and any repairs to the original table's colour.
Dimensions: Width 90.5 cm, length 220.5 cm extending to 272 and 324 cm. Height 76 cm, Leg-room 62.5 cm.
