A 17th century French farmhouse table, originally used both as a kitchen food/preparation and as a dining table, the massive two-plank elm top with a nicely worn character, marked by generations of use. Standing on square-section oak legs joined by a sturdy 'H' stretcher. The early construction techniques used here are similar to ones found in this period's architectural timber constructions. Please note the large-sized oak 'pegs' used throughout this table and the good leg-room under the top. Area of Calvados in Northwestern France, Louis XIV period, circa 1680.
