An 18th century French solid oak Convent's refectory/ work table, the top made from only two wide planks, standing on simply-shaped uprights joined by a stretcher. This table, at which nuns worked and ate has a wonderful personality, a good length and a narrow width, with plenty of leg-room under the top. Please note the nicely worn and well-burnished surfaces and the thickness of the planks of the top. This table is designed to come apart, for ease of transport and storage. Please note the underside with its early construction techniques, including the use of an adze. Area of Normandy, France, circa 1780.
