A large French Monastery Table

  • Stock ID: 8293
  • Reference No: MX, @W/H D
A French Arts and Crafts period, Louis XIV style 17th century Monastery table, the sturdy, square-section legs jointed and attached to the massive, single-plank walnut top. The legs of this table base are joined, in a similar way to a roof structure, with an 'H' stretcher which is reinforced by two angled braces. The narrowness of this table is typical of early tables for monasteries' refectories - and is in fact excellent width for holding conversations across the table. Please note: this table comes completely apart, for ease of transport. Area of Calvados, Normandy circa 1880.
Condition report: In excellent structural condition. Requiring to be cleaned, waxed and buffed.
Dimensions: 370 x 70 cm, height 74.5 cm.
