A 19th century French farmhouse's solid beechwood kitchen table, the very well-burnished and soft-coloured top made from two 4 cm thick planks fitted with 'bread-ends', standing on four sturdy, square-section legs joined by an 'H' stretcher. Note the higher than usual height of the table, typical for what is known as a "Table d'Office", a kitchen work-table. Area of Calvados, Lower Normandy, circa 1840.
