A 19th century French Louis XVI style, finely carved and gilded two-and-a-half seater "Canape en Corbeille" sofa of Parisian elegance, the backrest continuously curved to the sides, decorated with acanthus leaf pattern mouldings and a with a finial in the shape of an open book, standing on turned and tapering legs with fasces motifs. Please note the wonderful carved and gilt swags under the rails. The seat has a large and thick down feather cushion, for extra comfort. Area of Paris, circa 1880.
