A mid 19th century French Louis XVI style, Napoleon III period, carved circular 'tabouret' stool, the turned, tapered and fluted solid walnut legs joined by a shaped 'X' stretcher. The underside of the stool has the maker's hallmark, stamped "Pecquereau". Area of Paris, circa 1870.
Edouard Théodore Pecquereau was an apprentice of Jacob Desmalter and then opened his cabinet making workshop with his father, Jean Pecquereau, at 5 rue de Chemin-Vert in the heart of the Parisian cabinetmaking area, the Faubourg Saint-Antoine. Edouard Pecquereau entered in and won medals at the Paris "Exposition Universelle" in 1855 and in 1878, and the London Exhibition of 1862.
