A 19th century French 'Soupière' white glazed majolica soup tureen of Classical 'Medicis' shape, the lid with its original pommel, the urn shaped tureen with two foliate carrying handles. The underside stamped with the hallmark of 'Creil et Montereau'. Please note: in France, a soup tureen like this one is often used as a 'vide-poches', somewhere to put coins and keys into, near the front door. Area of Seine-et-Marne, circa 1860.
