A 19th century blue and white French majolica 'Soupière' soup tureen decorated with stylised flower plants and with whimsical birds and insects, hand painted in blue against a white background, the original lid topped by a handle in the shape of an apple and leaves. Area of Luneville, circa 1870.
If not used for serving soup at the table, this tureen makes for a wonderful 'vide-poches', a container near the front door in which to empty out your pockets of keys, coins, mobile phone, etc.
